Volkswagen AG

Based in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen Group is one of the leading car manufacturers in the world and is the market leader in Western Europe. In the course of its reorientation to a leading global provider of sustainable mobility, automated driving is one of the new core competencies of Volkswagen AG.

Research activities of Volkswagen Group comprise a long history in the field of automated driving, ranging from the Grand Challenge (2005), the Urban Challenge (2007) and other driving demonstrations such as the "Bobby", which was the first driverless racing car at the Hockenheimring, and Jack, a prototype vehicle, which drove almost exclusively automatically from LA to Las Vegas in 2015. The development of the Sedric shows that Volkswagen group is willing to offer a driverless robot taxi in road traffic.

Building in particular on the results of the funded projects PEGASUS, L3Pilot, UR:BAN, HAVEit, interactIVe and AdaptIVe and the BASt working group "Legal consequences of increasing vehicle automation", Volkswagen Group contributes its long-term experience to the project –particularly in the research of automated driving functions for the domain of motorways and urban space.

As consortium leader of the VDA Leitinitiative projects KI Absicherung and KI Plattform, Volkswagen Group Research is particularly focusing on methods for safeguarding AI.

In the KI Delta Learning project, Volkswagen is working on robust delta models, on the evaluation of the use of synthetic data for the application in delta models and locally valid models as well as on training methods for the generation of agnostic models and compression.
